The short version
Parentech is a Chrome extension plus a parent console at parentech.app. It has an account because remote control needs one. Through that account go your rules and your class reports. Through it never go the pages your child visits, watches or searches for.
There is no advertising, no tracking inside the extension, and nothing is sold, rented or shared with anyone for any purpose other than running the product. This policy covers the extension, the console and this website.

What the extension sends to your account
Only these, and only after a parent has signed in with Google:
- Who you are. Your Google name, email address, profile picture URL and Google's stable account ID. We use them to show who is in charge and to tie devices, rules and billing to one parent. Google's sign-in token is checked once and not kept.
- Your rules. Blocked sites, held search words, class programs (name, length, allowed sites), YouTube block lists (videos, channels, keywords), the calm-YouTube switches, and whether screen-time tracking is on. Each computer has its own set; they are stored against your account so you can change any of them from anywhere.
- Class reports. For each finished class: the class name, when it ran, minutes on task, minutes off task, minutes away from the screen, how many times attention left, and the hostnames of sites that were turned away with a count each. Never a full address, never a page title, never page content.
- Device check-ins. Every 30 seconds while Chrome is open, each computer reports a name you can recognise (for example "Chromebook · Chrome"), the extension version, whether a class is running and its running totals, and how many rules it holds. This is how the console shows what each computer is doing.
- Commands you send. When you start or end a class, unlock a site, lock the dashboard or re-sync rules from the console, that instruction and its result are stored so you can see it was carried out.
What never leaves the child's computer
- Browsing history. Which pages were visited, in what order, for how long. The extension reads the current tab's address to apply your rules and to total screen time; it does not send it.
- Search terms. A held search is stopped inside Chrome by a rule the browser applies itself. What was typed is not recorded and not sent, not even to us.
- Screen-time totals. Seconds per site per day, kept in that Chrome for 30 days and shown only there.
- The parent PIN. Stored on the computer as a salted PBKDF2 hash. The PIN itself is never written down anywhere, including in your account.
- Anything YouTube shows. Titles and channels are matched on the page, in the browser. Nothing about what was watched is sent.
Why the extension asks for the permissions it does
Chrome shows these when you install. Here is what each one is for, and nothing else:
- Read and change data on all websites. Needed to block a site, hold a search, keep a class to its allowed sites, count screen time by hostname, and tidy YouTube. The extension looks at the address of the current tab and, on YouTube only, the page itself. No page content is stored or sent.
- Identity. Google sign-in for the parent, so this computer's rules reach your account and the console can reach this computer. Used once at sign-in and once if the PIN is forgotten.
- Tabs and idle. To know which tab is in front and whether anyone is at the keyboard, so screen time and class totals are honest.
- Storage and alarms. To keep rules on the computer and to end a class or re-lock a site on time.
Google user data
Parentech's use of information received from Google sign-in follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use your Google name, email and account ID only to sign you in and run your account. We do not use them for advertising, do not sell them, and do not let humans read them except to fix a problem you have asked us to fix.
Payment
Payment is handled by Stripe. The checkout page and the billing page where you change a card, switch between monthly and yearly, or cancel are Stripe's own. Parentech receives from Stripe whether your plan is active, its renewal date, and Stripe's identifiers for your customer and subscription records. We never see or store card numbers. Stripe's own policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Account data is stored in a Postgres database hosted by Neon and served by Cloudflare Workers, both under our account and both encrypted in transit and at rest by those providers. Class reports are kept until you delete them or your account; the extension itself keeps the last 60 on the computer. Device check-ins overwrite the previous one, so only the latest is held. Commands are kept for 30 days so you can see they ran.
Deleting your account
Account & billing → Delete account in the parent console removes your profile, devices, rules, reports, commands and billing record, and cancels any subscription first. Each Chrome keeps working with the rules it already has until it is signed out. Removing the extension from a Chrome clears everything it held locally. Stripe keeps the invoices it is legally required to keep.
This website
This site uses cookies to track how it is used. Blocking cookies for this site in your browser changes nothing about how it works.
Our host records standard server logs, which we read only to keep the site up. Signing in to the parent console stores a session token in your browser's local storage. There are no advertising or chat scripts on this site.
Children
Parentech is installed and configured by a parent. It does not create a profile of the child, does not ask for the child's name or age, does not identify who is using the browser, and sends nothing about what they browse to anyone, including us. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this changes
If a future version sends anything not listed here, this page and the extension's store listing will say so before that version ships, and the date at the top of this page will change.
