Introduction

NotNow ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a website blocker for Google Chrome. It is designed to run entirely on your own device. This Privacy Policy explains how the extension handles your information.

Our Privacy Promise

NotNow is built on a foundation of privacy. Unlike most extensions, we:

  • ✓Do not collect any personal information
  • ✓Do not transmit any data to external servers
  • ✓Do not use analytics or tracking services
  • ✓Do not sell or share your data with third parties
  • ✓Do not require an account or login

Data Storage

Everything NotNow saves is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's extension storage, and never leaves your device:

  • Your list of blocked websites
  • A salted PBKDF2 hash of your PIN (your actual PIN is never stored and cannot be recovered)
  • Your optional PIN hint, if you set one
  • Any temporary unlocks currently in effect

Permissions

NotNow requests the following permissions to function:

Access to all websites

Because you can add any site to your blocklist, the extension must be able to match and redirect navigations on any domain. It does not read, record, or transmit the content of the pages you visit.

declarativeNetRequest

Used to redirect blocked pages to the extension's own blocked screen. Rules are built solely from your blocklist.

Storage

Stores your blocklist, hashed PIN, optional hint, and temporary unlocks — all locally.

Alarms

Used to automatically re-block a site when a temporary parent unlock expires.

Third-Party Services & Remote Code

NotNow makes no network requests. All code, styles, and fonts are bundled inside the extension. There are no third-party services, SDKs, trackers, or advertising networks.

Data Retention and Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

  • You can remove blocked sites or change your PIN at any time from the extension
  • Removing the extension permanently deletes all stored data
  • We have no ability to access or recover your data

Note: your PIN is never stored, so it cannot be recovered. If you forget it and set no hint, reinstalling the extension is the only way to reset.

Children's Privacy

NotNow is a parental-control tool. It stores no information about any child and transmits nothing about anyone.

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page and the "Last Updated" date above.
