# Parentech

> Your kid isn't doing homework. They're on YouTube. Parentech goes on their Chrome and makes your rules physical: the site doesn't open, the class is the only thing that does, the search doesn't run. They can't switch it off. You run it from your phone.

Parentech is a Chrome extension for a child's computer plus a parent console
on the web. A parent signs in with Google, sets a 6-digit PIN, and sets rules:
which sites never open, which search words are stopped, what a class session
allows, what YouTube hides or blocks. Rules can be changed from the parent's
phone at https://parentech.app/account and reach every device within 30 seconds. The
child needs the PIN to change anything. Browsing history never leaves the
child's computer; only the rules and class reports (hostnames only) go through
the account. Free on one computer, for good. The family plan ($4.99 a month or
$39.99 a year, billed by Stripe) adds every other computer, rules that sync
between them, and control from the parent's phone; 7 days of it free first.

- [Online class mode](https://parentech.app/online-class-mode): For the length of a lesson, only the sites the class needs will open on your child's Chrome. Everything else waits. Afterwards, a report of time on task and what was turned away.
- [Screen time](https://parentech.app/screen-time-tracker): See how long your child actually spent on each website today and this week, counted only while they were really there. Kept on the computer, never uploaded.
- [Block YouTube channels](https://parentech.app/block-youtube-channels): Block a YouTube channel, a specific video or any word in a title. Blocked videos stay paused under a notice; blocked channels and words vanish from the feed and search.
- [Calm YouTube](https://parentech.app/calm-youtube): Turn YouTube into a place to watch the video they came for. Hide Shorts, the home feed, recommendations, comments and end cards, and switch autoplay off, each with its own switch.

## Notes

- It guards Chrome on the computer it is installed on. A different browser,
  profile, phone or tablet is outside its reach.
- The parent PIN is stored as a salted PBKDF2 hash. Recovery is by signing in
  with the same Google account.
