Frequently Asked Questions

How does Hart Steps count my steps?

Hart Steps uses your device's built-in pedometer sensor to count steps. On iOS, we access the Core Motion framework, and on Android, we use the Step Counter sensor. The app reads data directly from your device's hardware sensors for accurate step counting.

Do I need an internet connection?

No! Hart Steps works completely offline. Since all your data is stored locally on your device and we don't use any cloud services, you never need an internet connection to use the app.

How is my privacy protected?

Hart Steps is built with privacy as the top priority. All your data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers or any third parties. We don't use analytics, tracking, or require account creation. Your data is completely private and under your control.

Can I sync with Apple Health?

Yes! On iOS, you can optionally enable Apple Health integration to sync your step data with the Health app. This is completely optional and can be enabled or disabled at any time in the app settings.

How do I change my daily step goal?

Navigate to the Profile tab and tap on your current daily goal. You can then enter a new goal that fits your fitness level. The recommended goal is 10,000 steps per day, but you can set any goal that works for you.

How are calories calculated?

Calories are estimated based on your profile information (weight and height) and the number of steps you've taken. The calculation uses standard metabolic formulas, but please note these are estimates and may vary based on individual factors.

Can I export my data?

Data export functionality is coming soon! When available, you'll be able to export your step history in CSV format for use in other applications or for your own records.

The step count seems inaccurate. What should I do?

Step counting accuracy depends on your device's sensors. For best results:

  • Keep your phone with you while walking (in pocket or bag)
  • Make sure the app has permission to access motion & fitness data
  • Restart your device if you notice persistent issues
  • Contact support if problems continue

How do I delete my data?

You can delete all your data by going to the Profile tab and tapping "Clear All Data" at the bottom of the screen. This will permanently delete all your step history, statistics, and profile information. Alternatively, uninstalling the app will also delete all local data.
